frame-less is an option i may consider later on, maybe in a second project, but for now i'm sticking to a framed yacht. hull design for me at the moment is proving very difficult, i think its something i will gather over time. i am how ever going to design the interior fit out, electrical and propulsion fit out as well. and possibly even the rig ![]()

how about a traditional 40' sloop eg, top sail, stay sail, gaff rigged main with topsail etc saw some pretty pictures (not to mention that i am a tad of traditionalist when it comes to design and architecture)

Ahh ! Spent some time.. well a lot doing up some initial hull concepts what do you all think of this one ? I have uploaded most the pictures. Length over all : 40.000 [ft] Beam over all : 12.157 [ft] Design draft : 1.600 [ft] Displaced volume : 215.85 [ft3] Displacement : 6.166 [tons] Total length of submerged body : 32.556 [ft] Total beam of submerged body : 9.894 [ft] Length on waterline : 32.556 [ft] Beam on waterline : 9.894 [ft] Waterplane area : 225.69 [ft2] Waterplane coefficient : 0.7007 Waterplane center of flotation : 18.550 [ft] Entrance angle : 22.405 [degr.] Transverse moment of inertia : 1304.2 [ft4] Longitudinal moment of inertia : 12983 [ft4] Lateral area : 37.077 [ft2] Longitudinal center of gravity : 21.403 [ft] Vertical center of gravity : 0.954 [ft] If you say its crap its crap, if it wont work i wanna know. be blatant, harsh criticism is good criticism Regards Davin

I would recommend going here: http://www.kastenmarine.com/articles.htm#Metal_Boats to read some comments on metal boats and the different properties of the materials involved. (thought as a late reply on your opening post) Regards Richard

In regards to the design software, since you are a student I think you can get Rhino for less than $200, not a bad price and you can continue using it after your graduate. http://www.rhino3d.com/sales.htm Jarl http://dallur.com
