Sea Surface Modelling

Hi, not sure if this is the right thread to ask this question (im new here).

Im a Naval Architect in the UK working on some workboat/trawler type design concepts.

I have some models in Rhino which Im trying to render realistically to use as marketing material.

I am struggling to model and render a sea surface that looks anywhere near realistic, does anyone have any experience of creating a sea surface and then any tips on rendering it? Anyone know of any free meshes or alike available online.

Any help gratefully recieved!

Thanks

Andy

This image (not mine) is done in Vue, software you can get almost free, even the full version is not too bad. I have seen some nice results but still not realistic.

The image is from here http://www.renderosity.com/index.ez , it’s a good site to help with the art end of computer graphics.

I am on the same quest as you and haven’t arrived yet.

try making a surface to represent your sea surface then overlay a high res jpeg photo of some ocean water onto it. By playing around with it you can get something that looks fluid and has all the right colours of the ocean. I have used the standard rhino renderer to do this. Looks a lot better than some of the ones you see in the magazines. If you are like me and render like one image a year this might be ok.
