i was thinking if i had hinged vertical peices going the opposite way to the ones next to it,and a casing to go over the top (the interior)or two cases that fit together,it would be safe,as i could also attach the casing in rough weather so as it doessnt fly off or have something where there is a secure bar accross the top to stop it becoming a UFBH (Unidentified Flying Boat House)LOL

Djwkw, others and I have tried to make this point as politely as we could but you just don’t seam to get it.

IF YOU GO OUT TO SEA IN A HOUSE BOAT / SHANTY BOAT / RIVER BOAT YOU ARE A CANDIDATE FOR THE DARWIN AWARD.

Listen to what wiser men than I have been telling you.

Learn to sail safely, look at the designs others have had success with and the designs that have failed.

Any thing like a house boat will have too much hull / cabin exposed to the wind to be safe at sea.

Windows bigger that portholes are a very bad thing.

There are trailer sailors with cabins that pop up like camping trailers, I don’t know of any of these which are safe on the open ocean.

Even mild weather on the ocean will tear apart any boat which is not designed to handle it.

If you are out of sight of land, you better know how to navigate or you are lost.
If you ate within sight of land you better know how to navigate and how to sail or the land will hit you.

I hate to sound discouraging, I love your enterprising spirit and I don’t want the world to loose that: either at sea or buy some grumpy bastart discouraging you too much.

I hate the guys at the marinas and boat shops who tell me that it can’t be done, that it is not safe.

Go for it, but go safe.

The thing about a boom tent:
when sailing it is folded up and tucked out of the way, when you get to a beach or an anchorage you can pop it up and have a cabin as big as some cruising boats.
They are an efferent way to have a comfortable space on a small boat that can still travel well.

THAT is why im not going to build a HOUSE BOAT / SHANTY BOAT / RIVER BOAT but going to build a raft, rather like the son of town hall, but not as long.

Better to be embarrassed here than at the wrong end of a USCG rescue line.

I once sank a sail boat by not building the CB / swing keel trunk high enough above the WL and not capping it.

Lots of little mistakes can lead to a "good" story if you are lucky and a very bad one if you are not.

Sounds like the port authorities have given you their decision... ???

Have they ?

If so, what did they say ?

You must understand that we have not been trying to knock your idea for the "idea's sake" but, that you asked for advice about this adventure... and in everyones humble opinion, you were given an honest opinion............ many opinions for that matter.
Don't raft the Tyne as you have suggested.

You've never answered my previous question about your age.......?
How old are you Dominick ?

Don't be ashamed if your young... I'm only 12... (at heart).

I'm not trying to make fun of you... I am only 12 at heart... 44 in reality but, 12 at heart. I still have some adventure left in me and I have some dreams too. Boating dreams !

Life has taught me though, that I need to look at these dreams from a perspective that will allow me to visualize all the possibilities of my actions.

With god's grace, I will live out these dreams too. I will travel in a boat as I wish and have one more adventure before I'm too old to wander... too old period !!!

Keep us posted. I hope that you stay off of the Tyne but, may you find another avenue to pursue your dream... Rafting !!!

An adventure is still an adventure wether your on the Tyne or the Mississippi.

Keep up the persiverence... but, don't be foolish... there are enough fools to fill our history books and front pages of the news papers.
