Scaling Laws for Hull Dynamics

Hello -

I'm looking for a reference on how one might expect a model of a boat's performance to scale as the size of the boat increases. I'm building numerical models of hull performance using small scale boats and want to be able to argue convincingly that I can apply those same modeling techniques to the performance of full scale boats in the future.

Any thoughts or references I should look at?

Thanks,

Stuart Anderson

Always start with Froude.
Read "THe Papers of William Froude" M.A., LL.D., F.R.S.
Published 1955
It all starts there.

Thanks!

Thanks all, and especially CGN, for the references - they are exactly what I was looking for.

Scaling

Don't forget basic laws if you have a free running model.

For example, if a model were 1/10 scale it would have to have 1/1000 the weight (1/10 length x 1/10 width x 1/10 height = 1/1000 the volume).
