Kestrel is having a set of plywood plans drawn up. It will have far fewer parts, will be lighter and faster to construct (for the average person) and will be the same strength. To answer your question, yes, there are many benefits to a plywood version of Kestrel. In the case of the client that contracted the original, who's son was an experienced aluminum welder and works for a fishing boat builder (also aluminum), it made much more sense to use aluminum.
