Retractable Hydrofoil Powerboat

    Having any small powerboat compete with a car as a viable form of transportation is pretty difficult. In pollution per mile a car always wins. However, if a 5 mile boat trip is competing with 50 mile car trip due to the specific geography, then it might be less pollution to use the boat. Probably rare circumstances though.
