    Can someone tell me about any empirical method to estimate the resistance of a rectangular barge?

    You could try to obtain copies of;

    C W Howe, "Inland Waterway Transportation", Johns Hopkins Press, Baltimore, MD, USA, 1969, pp 23-27

    Bronzini et al, "Inland Waterway Port Model Design, Development & Methodology", Transportation Center, University of Tennessee, Final report Contract No. MA 79 SAC 00183, Jan 1981, pp 408-409

    Christopoulos & Latorre, "River Towboat Hull and Propulsion", SNAME Marine Technology, July 1983

    SNAME also have published a technical note on the residuary resistance coefficients of barges

    Do you know any site where I can download any of these books?
