Very good Topic !!!!!!!!!!!!!! At present in the Med they are chopping up with a chainsaw, steamrolling flat , then disposing of the old plastic yachts in public landfill. I just drove past an abandoned farm with 50 dead plastic charter boats, stacked up like cordwood, ready for disposal. In a few years there will be thousands and thousands of DEAD BAVARIA's to dispose of.

It would be nice if you could get all that glass out again, but what destroys polyester without a nasty chemical mess? Maybe we could go back to burning boats and scraping up all the old fasteners etc, but perhaps burn them in chambers and catch the fumes etc? I dunno. Maybe cut deck and super structures off, turn upside down onto a concrete slab, cut hole for door in transom and call it a home?

| They can be incinerated as other toxic waste is. The ideal recycling is to stop being so fashion conscious and keep on using the boats.

There is only one process that i can think of, grind them up into varying sizes of granuals and use these as fillers similar to glass and old tires,In concrete, road surfaces, pre fab walls in house construction, automobile parts, the uses are limited only to imagination, research, and market demand. With all the stress on greenhouse gases and recycling, research funding shouldn't be a problem. Geo.

Plenty of recycling going on. I believe this recycling is for clean composites...waste from manufacturing. Research " FRP recycling " rather than "composite recycling". Ive never heard of a boat recycling facility. http://www.mntap.umn.edu/fiber/report12-04.pdf http://www.gogreenfrp.com/ http://www.nordic-composite.com/admi...sp?FileID=1131
