| Prices of megayacht equipment and materials Hi, is there anywhere available some kind of list with indicative prices of engines, generators, propellers, shafts, etc. for megayachts? I am making a feasability study, but I would like to avoid contacting a manufacturer of every piece of equipment just to obtain an idea of the cost (at this stage). Is there an other way to find out what it all costs? (for example: ABB Compact Azipods, MTU Diesel engines, ...) |

| For a good feasability study it's better to work with data that comes from a known source! Looks to me you have to contact all the manufacturers. Just thought of something, this is data available at a shipyard, maybe you can use their data! Good luck

| Most boat builders will NOT share much info that would be usefull. Here in the US most marine hardware is discounted 50% + 10% for OEM builders OEM "Orig Equippment Mfg". Engines and other goodies is much less (but still VERY generous) depending on the volume of purchase. Or your track record over many years. Its hard to break in to the good OEM discounts , the start is to ONLY contact a target from a trade publication , and follow up on good stationary. FAST FRED |

| DON'T MIND HIM FOLKS! That happens to me twice a year..... The big yacht builders get a good price on the equipment (a discount) and then they mark it up to the MSRP (because they have to handle it and store it) Then they have to charge to install it. Calling a supplier for "Northern Lights Generators" for example will get you the MSRP. I don't know who your local marine supply warehouse is, but for most things I'll bet if you chuck them a list, they'll be able to fill in the prices for you (If they're worth their salt, they'll even price out some things that they don't supply just to encourage your patronage). Sean thinks you're trying to see if a yard is hosing you on the compnent pricing, I think you're trying to get a comfortable idea of what you can afford. Either way, I believe that you'll be amazed at both how much of the total bill is labour, and how high the margins on a big boat are.

| I am not interested in the actual price for something. I only want to compare prices, therefore list prices (MSRP) will do. I don't care about discounts. This is not for an existing project or customer, I would just like to do some calculations "for fun" comparing the cost of various propulsion systems. I would be interested in knowing for example what an ABB Compact Azipod would cost, but I couldn't be bothered asking them for a quote as I am not a real client. Thanks for all reactions, and if you do find a site with MSRP prices listed, please post. |

| Prices Megayacht Equipment The answer is no. That means, that prices concerning profi equipment are fairly confidential. You will never know the real price a yard or - principal - paid for a certain engine, and nobody will or can tell you either. Same counts actually for the commercial business, not only for the big yachts. There are of course ex-factory prices. But those are never paid in this business, everything is subject to final negotation. For the smaller items however, gensets, electronics - the fairly common equipment, you might get prices, nothing exiting about that. For the larger systems you have to guess, taken a certain percentage of the ex-factory price. Although for engines they are difficult to get because a naked engine is seldom supplied alone. Do not forget that every manufacturere is ahead of everythinbg that plays in the mega-yacht business, so if you ask for a quotation, one will ask which ship and which buildingnumber it will concern. If you ask me what you exactly want to know, I may try to help you tou find a satisfactory answer, but your queries should be well described and properly to the point. |
