| Pre-planing Methods? I am conducting some scaled tank testing (model size=1.050m) as part of a university engineering project for pre-planing and planing conditions. I have written a program using Savitsky for planing based on equations from his 1964 paper. The project focuses on planing ability and hence requires analysis for pre-planing. The ultimate determinant from the project is to predict changes in lift and drag with respect to speed in sub planing conditions leading into full planing. What is the most appropriate method is associated with pre-planing speeds for drag and lift forces. I have heard of the Savitsky pre planing method but have to literature for it. Is it any different to his 1964 paper? If it was possible to have any guidance or literature associated with this, it would be much appreciated Cheers James |

| Ward Brown and Savitsky paper Does anyone have access to this paper at all? as a pdf? Daniel Savitsky and P. Ward Brown, "Procedures for Hydrodynamic Evaluation of Planing Hulls in Smooth and Rough Water," Marine Technology, October 1976 Issue, SNAME, Paramus, NJ. James |

| "Procedures for Hydrodynamic Evaluation of Planing Hulls in Smooth and Rough Water" is a SNAME published paper. You can purchase the paper directly from SNAME.

| This may seem like a stupid question, but does Savitskys methods in his 1964 paper require that we use imperial or metric value's? It seems that i have only been able to get reasonable answers when i use Imperial. I thought the coefficients in some of the equations may have been derived using imperial values. any help would be great Ben |
