Pontoon Boat Deck

    I AM REFURBING A PONTOON BOAT. I AM USING TREATED 3/4 IN. PLY. I PAINTED THE BOTTOM WITH A LATEX PRIMER AND TWO COATS OF EXT PAINT . THE TOP I SCREWD A 2.5 IN PLYWOOD PIECE UNDER EACH JOINT AN GLUED WITH PLYWOOD FLOORING GLUE . PUT ONE COAT OF OIL PRIMER AND TWO COATS OF DECK ENAMEL. WHAT CAN I PUT AS A TOP COAT TO WATER PROOF BETTER . WE WANT IT FOR FISHING. DO NOT WANT CARPET.
    WILL GEL COAT WORK ? AJG1@HOMESC.COM

    Have you considered spray-on bed liner with an anti-slip surface?

    If you want non-skid there is deck enamel with a flat finish. The water based lasts about three years if it is not covered.

    No But That Sounds Like A Good Idea. Does It Roll On And Are There Different Textures? Will It Be Water Proof And Would I Need To Sand The Paint I Have On The Plywood Before Coating

    You already waterproofed it enough. A little scuffing is all you need.

    No. You can sprinkle builder's sand or other grainy substance onto wet paint for texture or safety. You can even use a toothed glue trowell or other implement to add texture. It all depends on how much you are willing to do.

    At home Depot I saw an interesting product for repairing , top coating older wooden decks & porches.

    Seemed just enough no skid to be safe , yet EZ to flush fish parts off of.

    I have that on my deck out back and am happy with it. It would be a good choice, keeping in mind it needs re-done every few seasons, depending on foot traffic. Good color options, too.

    Gelcoat will act like a paint remover. If you want to gelcoat, first you have to remove all other coatings. Then fiberglass over it and finish with gelcoat.

    thanks a guy was going to jel coat it for me . i went to home depo and got some oil polyerethene. thanks again for all your advise. the paint i used was free but to dark or i would have went with it as is

    There is a great product made for decks and walkways, I think it is called "deckcoat" or something similar. It is gray and has some kind of fine aggreget in it. It is made by the same company that makes "Sno-roof", it is latex based and not very expensive.

    There are also two part deck covering products that are similar, but they cost a lot more and I have not found are any more durable. I would try the latex based deck-coat product.

    I'm in the process of removing the old "carpet" covering from my pontoon deck.I'm going to use a two part paint [epoxy] that comes with color flakes and a non slip additive.Paint can be rolled on and then color flakes and sand can be added by hand.Let you know how it works out.
