Planing and V Hull Design

I am interested in getting up to speed on some of the finer details of planing and V Hull design. What are the classic references that naval architects use for this purpose ? Are there any sources of research reports in the public domain or is most detailed research data proprietry ?

In particular I am interested in information relevant to small boats up to say 25 ft length.
