| Pirate Ship computer lofted ready for build Is this the only Pirate ship designed on computer? Designed so that mylar patterns of all the structure can be accurately produced. De-skilling the build process, planking is the only skilled work left for the builder. Intended to be built in Sri Lanka were timber and labour are cheaper. | What makes it a "pirate ship" rather than just a traditional appearing small schooner? I assume you are not designing and building for the Somali market.

| Inch and a half mahogany planking?.....These pirates are doing well.... ![]() The whole structure seems wimpy to me......needs thicker planking, beef up the frame heels to about double what they are up top, heavier clamp and run the main deck clamp full length, quadruple the bilge stringers and scarf the joints, the 3" stern tube cuts the 4" stern framing off, add sisters or make it thicker, mast steps are way wimpy....double the thickness and put a floor directly under the butt of the spar, double side 4 beams in way of the mast partners, add deck blocking, lodging knees, real hanging knees, threaded rod every second frame bay in way of deck openings and doublers in way of chainplates......or leave the frame as is and put two layers of 0.5" diagonal planking on followed by one fore and aft layer of 3/4" with lots of big screws through the whole thing.......

| eucalyptus!!! have they solved the problem with it going through several stages of aggressive torquing and re-bending? Last I heard, some company was getting sued out of biz for trying to make patio decks out of it. The decks all blew apart in a year. |

| The scantlings seem really light. Also, where are the guns, the magazine and the brig for hostages?

| It's all too clean and wholesome, and as Gonzo asked, where are the guns? It looks like a software pirate ship to me. |

| It's been a traditional sideline to piracy. Hold rich people hostage and murder the rest.

| Pirates would probably not have the means to build a ship, just the means to steal one. So, a pirate ship would look like whatever they could get their hands on. No guns, unless they stole a navy ship and even pirates would not be that stupid. They would steal from merchant and passenger ships like they do today by coming alongside and jumping on board. Any ship can be a pirate ship, but it has to be full of thugs that steal and scream "Ooooh Arrrr" every so often. Poida |

| I'll back up Tad's comments and suggest the designer has never built a (substantial) boat previously and that the rig is little more then a cartoon. The stem assembly is a joke and the general approach devoid of obvious marine engineering. Just for laughs, where's her GM? Oh and ya, there were lots of yellow pirate ships. Is this the same Branson that does the steel kit stuff in UK? What has happened over there, changed ownership, new direction, what? |

| Topmast but no topsails. Only two headsails and the jib seems to be shackled to the end of the bow sprit, no running back stays, no vangs, etc. Who lofted it?
