Does anyone know where I might be able to download 2d drawing of a person sitting and driving. I need to double check some cockpit dimsions in a new design.
A while back, on this forum, I ran into a list of design "rules".
After an exhaustive search I am unable to locate that thread????

What would be a good minimum height of a sitting style cockpit??
    seat height?
    ceiling height above seat?

    thanks for your input..:)

seat height is 48-50 cms; ceiling height sitting: 150 cms - keep in mind that these figure are never a standard.

Skeens Elements of Yacht Design has all the sizes for normal standing and sitting

AND the necessary corrections for outsized folks.

    Works great!

    Baldur,

Human figures are also completely described with diagrams and tables of dimensions in Architectural Graphic Standards published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. and the American Institute of Architects. The diagrams include humans, male, female, and children, in all views (overhead front, side) in standing, sitting, etc. positions. It also includes allowances and guidelines for spaces to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (the ADA). This is an indespensible volume and should be included in every architect's bookshelf.

Key internal dimensions The minimum possible headroom for any cabin is 4ft, to maintain sitting headroom on a 12in seat. The minimum headroom over any seat is 3ft. This is measured from the top of the cushions. The height of any seat from the top of the cushion to the floor should be between a maximum of 19in and a minimum of 12in. The minimum width of any seat should be 12in, the usual is 16in. The usual dimensions for seats to sleep on, or for berths, are 78in in length and 30in in width. The minimum is 72in in length and 21in in width. Sam Rabl
