Paid design work I am looking for designers who can use Rhino and marine plugs-ins to create hyper realistic 3D presentations and plans that can be used for manufacturing unusual marine vessels. This is paid work for those who have the time and talent. A can-do attitude and a highly developed spatial sense as well as a great imagination are required. I will need to see examples of work as well as have a statement of design approach. I don't care if you have a formal education, just that you can do great work. Interested parties can send me private messages.

The types of vessels I am working on are unique applications of marine technologies. One of the projects has been discussed extensively in this forum, a solar-electric catamaran live-aboard vessel for inland waterways and protected ocean waters. Another that has been mentioned is a submersible utilizing sine wave propulsion - the Manta. I am also working on a ship which is an oceanarium, to be stationed between Maui and Hawaii Island. With the displacement of a couple of cruiseships, this will be an open ocean research center, an entertainment complex, and an aquatecture development. It will maintain its station using GPS technology utilizing wave power, wind energy and solar electric energy. It will be served by ferries such as the one below. My organization, Solar Marine Technologies is a startup company specializing in habitation of the water planet.

Jonathan, I work really well in a physical 3D environment, wood, plastic, steel or whatever, but I cain't draw them purdy pictures, as for the rhino-watchamacallit, yeah, I can usually sniff out unrealistic, impractical or just plain stupid ideas. So do I get the job? Got some money honey? Yoke. (Yes, I do apologize, but I couldn't resist) Last edited by yokebutt : 06-28-2005 at 06:54 AM. Reason: Poor spelling, not very impressive. Writing under the influence

I think you'll find most designers do an ok job of animation but are more focused on the "mechanics" of the design. You might end up needing 2 different people to handle this sort of project: One for design and one for the graphics.

Jonathan mate, I didn't mean to pick on you, I just saw what I thought were a couple of opportunities for levity in your posting, but if you or anyone else finds my little jokes annoying or offensive, I'd be more than happy to put on the suit, tie and a serious expression on my face before I log on. I will confess that I have an inclination bordering on the compulsive to poke fun at people that prefer virtual reality to physical reality, but not in a mean-spirited way, that's never my intention at all. Yoke. Last edited by yokebutt : 06-29-2005 at 03:33 PM. Reason: Sentence needed finishing.

Jonathan, Just had a couple of idle thoughts pop into my mind, how about buying an old offshore oil-rig? Would be easy to recycle one of those into something similar to what you describe, they're just not that easy to move, but perhaps one on the gulf coast? Hell, if it's in international waters, you could even have your own little kingdom. (make sure to register your new country with the front desk at the UN) PS. What does your energy budget look like for this project? I'm just curious. PPS. I'm a bit of a stickler for linguistic precision, what's impossible cannot, by definition, be done. Just keeping you honest. Yoke.
