No food,no water,no sail,no radio/Currents,planktons,sun I am researching to cross the ocean without carrying water , food , sail and radio from Istanbul to Chile. I am thinking to collect planktons with 50 dollars filter ,hunting fish , making drinking water with sun and using ocean currents for propulsion. Is there any rigid solar water maker for swinging boat ? I found some small and big vapor condensers but I dont think they are for swinging boat , and how can it be possible to produce water at cloudy day and without rain ? And is there a cycle in the population of planktons at Med and Atlantic ? Where can I find current maps specific to year ? Is it possible to cross the Med east to west with sea currents ? What about its timing ? Is it possible to collect enough planktons with micron filter as enough as food ? I think I can carry only medicine and vitamins. I think my boat will be 125 centimeters long , 115 wide , 130 high. 150 cms keel I spent my 10 years sitting in front of this .... screen , I can do this at sea also. I am waiting your ideas on current propulsion and watermakers and making food and whatever you have ? Thank you , umut

I forgot to ask , may be it would be possible to make electric from wind and sun. Is it possible to produce water with the help of electricity , may be anode cathode way ? I am not trusting and I have no money for watermakers .

Go spend 48 hours sitting on a raft 9 km out from shore. Then you may loose motivation for this masochism dream.

| Alain Bombard did it without any frills. He had a small inflatable

recommended reading: http://www.amazon.com/Adrift-Seventy.../dp/0618257322 But realistically - it will not be cheap if you want to stay alive - and you will likely die if the weather gets bad or go crazy and kill yourself. The person on the book I linked to drifted across Atlantic in a life raft (worth thousands of dollars by the way). He had emergency condenser water makers which broke. He had a spear gun which broke over and over again. He had good equipment, plenty of knowledge of seamanship, navigation solo sailing etc. He suffered, survived and wrote a book about it. Such trip would take months - cannot trust crappy stuff to work in salty and sunny conditions for months and months. If water maker (life raft models are few thousand I think) is too expensive I would consider flying. Much quicker, safer and cheaper. The fact that you have yet no clue of ocean currents etc. means that you lack some pretty basic knowledge. You need to read way more - and unfortunately you will find out that it would be pretty insane project.

hi all, At real risk of sounding rude, but I think this guy is not 'all there'. Read this, going from Istanbul to China without sail, food or water? Anyone believe that? His other thread is about getting a 10ft cylindrical boat made at a russian submarine yard. All this is pointing to someone that needs a little medical help with regards to the mind. It reminds me of someone that was on a yahoo group a whilst back, kept talking about an 8ft pico style egg boat. All a load of drivel. From memory name was something roughly like mustaffar el-sac, but could be wrong. If I were moderator I would ban him for sheer stupidity of posts....best to ignore this thread and never add to it in future,

| When Bombard, a medical doctor, presented his thesis at a medical sympsium the other doctors booed and laughed him off the stage. That is why he got on a raft and just did it. He claimed that most of the sailors lost at sea during WWII in tropical waters could have survived with what they had. He proved it. There are plenty of stupid naysayers but adventurers have fun. I do.

hi Found it name is mustafar umut sarac I recall him from yahoo group where he was talking about a small 8ft egg shaped boat so he could escape the persecution he had in Turkey, poor fellow i googled him, and here is just one post Is there any research done on plastic engine blocks or cannon barrels ? I interested in using plastics at high heat high pressure environments after learning some researchers cools 1600 degree plate to 80 degrees with potassium or sodium or exotic metallic liquids. I think it might be possible to produce a block out of graphite powder and epoxy composite , use liquid sodium as a coolant and use of metallic liners. Other high wear parts could be made from metal but think the weight reduction of the engine and the easy of production. I need your ideas , Best , Mustafa Umut Sarac Maybe the thread should be about the lack of good psychiatric care in third world countries..One thing is for sure.. he aint going to build a boat. so best not to reply Hi Mustafar!!!!!

my favorite feature is the dimensions of the boat: 125 centimeters long , 115 wide , 130 high. 150 cms keel so roughly - 4 feet long, 4ft wide, 4ft high (?) and 5ft keel. What kind of raft or boat will fit those measures? Even bombardier had a sail and a daggerboard. Took 60+ days for the atlantic crossing. http://pagesperso-orange.fr/dieppena...ainBombard.jpg on a a buoy like describe by op it would take much longer - and be much more deadly. ability to lie down is quite a big one.

Paint the boat red, too. Red boats go faster.

peter, I remember Mustafa . . . had a list of specs that were impractical, silly, and/or largely contradictory, and would demand answers or assistance, and then refuse all advice. IIRC, he would bewail his lack of money for the boat (needed for a one-time, one-way trip) and then insist that it had to be made of needlessly exotic or expensive stuff. I think the best suggestion given him was to build or even steal a cheap plywood skiff. I believe he got banned when he started insulting posters with outrageous obscenities. No way of knowing if he was just a troll or a genuine psychotic. Pretty amusing in retrospect.

mtumut, Do you have wine, women, or drugs in Istanbul. They are far cheaper and less dangerous than what you are proposing... If you are bored with life sneak into a airport and find your way onto the landing gear of an airplane that is going to take off and see where you land... Once again this is less dangerous than what you are proposing. Or just try walking from Istanbul to Chile, at least you can get to South Africa before you have to start swimming...

hi clmanges Actually it was me that told him to steal a skiff. At that moment I actually believed his sob story, and then someone googled him and turned out his was a nutter. I am 100 percent sure he is a total nutter. Who else would spend so much time on the internet thinking of stupid, annoying and daft ideas that will never come to fruition. a prankster would get bored eventually, I googled him, and came across the plastic engine cooled with liquid metal thread in about 10 seconds, there are probably thousands of daft posts out there in internet land. All stupid, all daft, all a waste of time. Mustafa will never touch a boat in his life, let alone go anywhere in one. 30 seconds of googling gave boat to Chile, cylinder style boat made in Russian submarine yard, pico egg shape boat to escape persecution (drug running?), plastic car engine cooled by liquid metal, and spinning glass to make a giant telescope lens. I am getting older, and nutters like these, if they are stupid enough to go out and die I no longer care. When i was young I used to care, now I am older and wiser and think stupid people get what they deserve. Reminds me on this around in ten nonsense actually.........
