Newbie to Boat Design

Ive recently become interested in boat design but im a total newbie to it. are their any good books for total beginners or articles on the web? Ive been reading through boatdesign.net which is excellent but im dont even know any boat terminoligy, Boat designers use their own Language!

Im a Rhino3D modeller so im interested in modelling a small boat on rhino with the view to making it.

Regards, Matt

Modelling a boat is much easier in "Yacht design programs" like Naval designer or Prolines than in Rhino.

You can try Amazon.com for books. "Principles of yacht design" by Eliasson and Larsson is a very complete book, but may be more than you want to know :-) "How to design a boat" by a John Teale (?) is maybe easier to read (shorter, more practical examples).

A classic book is "Dhows to Deltas" by Renato "Sonny" Levi.
The book is a staple and is seldom "lent out" even to friends.
It may be difficult to find but was originally published in Lymington, Hampshire by Nautical Publishing Company.
All the best.

Thanks for the recomendations, ill be looking at amazon straight away for them. Looks like you right Ragnar about the spe******t software, ive been using rhino from day 1 and love it, im pritty much an expert on it now but the prolines software looks amazing for boat design, might start off their then rebuild it in rhino.

Thanks Matt

Actually, I think Naval Designer is better than Prolines.
www.navaldesigner.com
Both programs ("Pro" versions) can export to IGES that can be imported in Rhino.
RhinoMArine is an alternative if you want to do all in Rhino.

Why not design the hull in Rhino with Phaser (Rhinomarine)?

I haven't tried RhinoMarine very much yet, but I beleive it's easier to play around with the shape in Naval Designer.
