| New Boat Projekt Hello. Me and about 10 other sailors are doing a project where we will build a monohull for racing with references to VO 70. we are in design phase and look at all the ideas we can get, the plan is to race it in all the distance races we can. so come with all the ideas you have about: Hull, sails, everything just come with it. Thanks... |

| The best idea, in my opinion, is to hire a Naval Architect. That will be the the investment that will give you the most for your money. A bad design will make everything else worthless.

| When something doesn't make sense, it's not true usually. If I read you well, all of you ten have more experience than a lot of the members. So why asking this vague question? Not in tune with the trade of each of you 10. What are you really asking, or what do you really want? Lister

| I wish I had known you needed help............... Make the pointy end very sharp. Make the pointy end wide enough to sit behind Use a very long mast and as big an area of sail as you can Put a big weight in the bottom so it does'nt blow over. Drinks holders are best for your champagne...................... ![]() There..............that should do the trick ![]() |

If you're not using the VO 70 rule then do a boat that uses lifting hydrofoils to reduce wetted surface. The winner of the BWR was V3 that used curved lifting foils pioneered by the 60' tri's and others. Look at Vlad Murnikovs Speed dream(pictures below)-his boat uses lifting foils similar to those being pioneered by Hugh Wellborne with his DSS system. Of the two the curved lifting foils may be the best approach. One things for sure: lifting foils have a tremendous future on fast monohulls! pictures L to R: Speed Dream 35' proto, DSS25(see foil midships just above wl), Speed Dream 100' rendering, V3 with curved lifting foils: click on image--
