Need help with moment of area-westlawn course Ive reread this section over and over again and I feel as though I am missing something that is not making this click. What do you use to find the center of area? What is that you find the center of area of...each section or the aft and forbodies? I just would appreciate if someone could explain to me in the simpliest way possible so I can move on. Its driving me nuts. Thanks ahead of time for those who take their time to help me out. -Scott

Scottg I am assuming you are taking about the below waterline hull sections and finding the center of area for the, vertical center of buoyancy. Just trace off and cut out each full below waterline section then fold in half, balance it on a point, when level push down to make a hole. Take the cut out and position over that section on the plan and measure from the hole to the baseline, use this distance as your arms above baseline in your vertical center of buoyancy sheet.

Actually I think I just figured it out. Using the midship station as 0 and then from there 1,2,3,4,5 aft and 1,2,3,4,5 forward as the multipliers. Like I said before I was missing something then it just all clicked

negatives Make sure you don't forget that the stern multipliers are negative and the forward ones are positive(or vice-versa). Or you could start at the bow, making that station 0 and going aft 1,2,3,4,...

I thought all along, Westlawn was just using the stations as examples as mentioned in the highlighted section on page 26. I guess I misunderstood the wording. Now I can move on to center of gravity which is so far so good.
