My new baby! 6.8 Meter fiber over wood fishing boat !

Yah just having problems finding a trailer !

The boat was pretty cheap due to polyresin being used instead of epoxy.
They use matt fiber glass but i asked him to used cloth for the first layers and the rest matt to get a smooth surface at the end.

The boat is about 7 meters total cost was around 1000 $ with out trailer or engine. (So wood, fiber glass, poly resin and hand work).
A 40 HP engine will run around 2500 $ (didnt buy it yet !) for a new motor. Used will be much cheaper maybe half price but its too risky.

Now the other bits and pieces (ladder, fish finder etc...) still not accounted for as prices have changed tremendously over the past 2 years because of the economic situation (dollar has gone up from 6.25 to 7.3 !) so yet to calculate the cost.

If i am to build using stitch and glue 5 meter it would be around 8600 $.

 

Well boat is expected to finish within 1-2 weeks (i hope!) sorting out the paper work, engine and trailer.

I am thinking of a 2 stroke 30-50 HP outboard engine, Mercury, Yamaha, suziki or honda (they are the ones with presence in the Egyptian market.)

 

The two stroke yamaha 50hp is a good motor. Cheap, easy to service, Lightweight powerful and rugged.

They are unavailable for sale in the european and american market.

Other manufacturers may also have good motors. Best to ask local guys.

 

Any particular model ? There is such a wide range ...

With outboards I have had good luck with all the big brands. mercury made a fine 2 stroke small motor. Nissan Tohatsu is also very good.

Locally I use Yamaha because the dealer is across the street , has a good workshop and stocks a big selection of repair parts.

Repair parts and service is what its all about. Water pump impellers, fuel filters, props, .....
