| I was planning to add a sail in my fishing boat (no experience with sailing at all though) and a rudder as well sort of a hybrid. I did ask the builder to reinforce the area for the mast just in case. ------ Thats a pretty boat troy, well worth renovating ... even if it was made in 1961 thats half a century old and still going. So yah if u have the time rebuild that boat i am sure it would sell very well or it will serve u well as a sail boat.

| I am however not sure how i want them to finish the boat, i mean paint and protective coating after fiber is done. PUR, Vinyl Resins, marine paint, varnish etc.... i have not researched this area as i should so please any idea please post em ! Specially with ployresin and fiber i good protective coating would help keep this cheap boat in good condition for a long time (i hope!)

| Yah centerboard wouldnt worked with this construction type and boat design. But i can use the sail in emergencies as i read here http://asianyachting.com/AYmasters/l1tech&.htm http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthre...nd-centerboard I guess the size, shape and type of sail would be the critical factor in wanting to sail with out a centerboard (if i am not mistaken). A friend of mine is the sailing export, so ill ask him as well ![]()

I stuck it in a back corner of my property planning to do something with it "someday," and pretty much forgot it was even there. That's easier to do than you might think, if you have a couple of acres. Apparently the original wooden Snowbirds were sailed in the 1932 Olympics. Here's a picture of the gold medal winner. And again, I'm amazed at all the information that's available now online, compared to what was there when I originally brought the boat home. I suppose it's time I did something with it, or passed it on to someone who will. Maybe I'll make it my next project, before I build my Billy Atkins 'Excelsior' sailing canoe. Anyway, last post on the Snowbird. I'll stop hijacking your thread. ![]()

| Its a joy to see Troy and yah put it on your todo list ! And ur one of the few folks i do not mind getting my thread hijacked by ur posts Yah the net is amazing in that regards, what i think you should do is compile that history, print it out and have a hard copy with as much details on that boat as you can. It would serve you well if you think of selling it, the history alone in a printed form should help you fetch a really good price ![]()

I will keep it in a dry place and read bedtime stories to it I want people to go "oooh" every time it goes in the water I will dry moor it and may take a lick of paint to scratches occasionally It will never leave the water once launched I intend never to touch it with a paint brush ever again I will probably use it to assault pebbly beaches most days There's this stretch of whitewater I like the look of and I may have to swim for it Nobody around here has heard of paint

| * I intend never to touch it with a paint brush ever again (kinda) * I will probably use it to assault pebbly beaches some times (the keel will have a stainless steel guard just in case as deployment is tough some times due to tide and water level). * I will keep it in a dry but sunny place and i will clean it with fresh water after every trip * Acquiring paint and painting it on the beach is a pain in the arse but doable prefer not too.

| Semi-gloss 2-component PU based paint seems the way for you. |

| Just for interest my answer is "I will dry moor it and may take a lick of paint to scratches occasionally" although I used to store them in the garage and read them bedtime stories a long while ago until a neighbour caught me . . . the local kids used to gather around while I was building a boat but they don't do that any more; hopefully they just got bored and there is no connection.
