Does any one have a picture for a round rib installation for the above? The guys at the yard couldn't put heads or tails and need a clearer picture,

Not much to see here, I hope someone else has some better pictures to provide.

This one is a 28ft. semidispl. from my gallery.

paint white - like most boats are to avoid extra heat.

You need at least three layers of neat Epoxy to close every single pore.
Then five coats of (cheap) paint inside.
Three outside, after applying a roll on, or spray on filler (paint) and sanding that down. This may be done five times to get a smooth surface.
    Why less outside than inside?
The outside is easily to see and service, the inside will be never touched again.
And you have to haul and repaint for antifouling anyway.

If you go varnish, you go costly. And if you like to go for perfection you go for some real labour intensive task.
First you apply five layers of neat Ep. The last two are sanded. (that means fully cured), then:
We lay 24 coats of varnish over several* coats of clear filler (*depends on smoothness of surface)
Each coat is sanded from 240 to 2000 grit, then the surface is buffed up.
A shiny, mirror effect is the result.

This applies to strip planking ? or fiberglass construction ?

    Wood...

on fiber you have just to spray two or three coats of paint over the (already fair) hull.
The shiny surface was already done in the mould (assuming you use female moulds).

That varnish job looks amazing. I thought my tiller took long enough.

    Thank you.

It just shows the pride of the craftsmen doing it. (and the arm of one, of course)
It took me 15 years to get them there.....24 coats.

I was going to show pics of my tiller in my tiller recoating thread but I think I have just been shown up :D How long are you waiting between coats that are to be sanded, or just recoated without sanding? Are you spraying or brushing? Is there a particular type of varnish that is better?

Sorry for thread hijack Vulkyn. Im looking forward to some build pics of your boat when you start :)

Depends on conditions, of course. Between non sanded coats 1 - 2 hrs. (but the open time allows for much longer).
Surface to be sanded has to cure for several days. (thats why it is so time consuming to deliver high quality finishes)
We spray of course, and we use a 2k PU varnish from "von Höveling"
