Muck Such 22

Hello...

Bit doped on pain killers - looks like I can fit what I want into 22 feet...

OK - I stole some Mark Ellis 22 foot Nonsuch graphics to do so in Photoshop - but it works...

I have been trying to drop in a standing rigged sloop bit - but I like the area and simplicity of the Ellis una rig...

Full head - full galley - one sheet - watch your drinks - TACKING...

Only trouble is stuffing a 10 HP saildrive under the cockpit sole such that there is no hump in same through the hatch...

I have seriously been considering Solomon electrics - see http://www.solomontechnologies.com/S...20install.html ...

Neat boat! There have been many sort of like it, but yours is a lot better looking! I think you'd sell a bunch if you actually built these.

I like the simplicity of the una rig too, especially for something like this. I have my reservations about balance under shortened sail, though.

I also like the idea of hybrid electric drive. I encourage you to explore it, and post back what you find out!

As much as I hate the idea of outboards, the latest ones are darned good. A 9 HP Honda would be pretty hard to beat.

I like the design also.

At the risk of being keel hulled, I'd suggest a Junk sail. Look at http://www.kastenmarine.com/junk_rig.htm . It would work nicely on the unstayed mast and since it would extend forward of the mast it would help with the balance problem. You could also get comparable sail area with less the mast height and Junk sails are easier to handle.

For a day sailor the electric drive would be OK. You wouldn't sail unless there was wind, so you wouldn't need to worry as much about being becalmed. OTOH the outboard would be much cheaper and easier to install.

Regards;

Thanks...

Hello...

I don't like the muss of junk rigs...

I think I wiill plunk a 10 HP sail drive way aft under an extended transverse cockpit seat - and balance with forward tanks (plus the weight of a una rig if I go with that)...

I am going to play with areas and centers - I would prefer a sloop with a self tacking boomed jib...

I will post comparison pics until I end up in Rhino...

Thanks for replies thus far...

Right then....

SH.
