movable hull sections

Awake at 5am... surfing... and a question comes to mind Are there any power boat designs that use moveable hull sections? I was thinking of an outrigger canoe sort of thing - maybe have a fold down pontoon on each side - to get the hull out of the water more, and to improve ride maybe? Any boats use somehing like this or has anyone played around with and designs like this?
