why do i never see adequate rear view mirrors on motor yachts?

But they have to give way - its the old Italian driving axiom "If something is behind you, you dont care"

On a serious note, because of the usual low speeds of boats (even 30 knots is not much) - the time it takes to catch up with a boat leaves the helmsman plenty of time to glance over their shoulder, and mirrors could impede a forward view.

Having driven in Italy...basically they just don't care. That is what the horn is for.

Many of those motoryachts large enough to need vision assistance for backing into a slip would be aided more by a backup camera than by a rearview mirror.
