Mini Transat help

Hi,

I'm currently designing a Mini Transat which is going ok. Does anyone have any hull information or drawings they could spare me? As this would be a great help

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi, do you mean as a reference help for your design? Detailed drawings of competitive designs will not be available because they are secret. But you can learn a lot from photos or discriptions. To get some informations you should surf the net intensively and save all the informations you can get. What Do you want to learn about mini design? Hull lines? Balances? Structures? Class Rules?

Hi,

I have looked at many Mini Transat website and they have been helpful... What I would really like to know is: What is the ideal Prismatic Coefficient for a Mini?

I am modeling a mini up on Maxsurf at the moment, and it going well.

cheers

I think in a boat half as wide as long the pc is not important anymore.

Most mini's are drawn by following the "dynamic flow method". That means a mini is big windsurfboard with a round bottom to have a planing area up to 10° or 15° heeling (and then comes the chine).

To face light weather and upwind sailing in displacement mode the mini's rely on a enormous sail area and stability (canting keel, waterballast), not on good underwater lines.

Greetings from the North Sea Coast, Michel

Thanks for that.

Where would I be able to find information on the Dynamic flow method?

Cheers, Andrew

Google...

And you'll find a lot of tips.
For example, http://www.vgyd.com/Mini.html

Quote:
The all carbon fiber hull and deck incorporates the latest proven trends in hydrodynamics for this ilk of offshore racing boat. The canoe body has a fine entrance angle in its forward sections, and a gentle rocker fairing into a defined wide-body chine aft. This optimized configuration will give the boat a significant advantage in terms of raw power and its ability to perform well in a broad range of conditions.

The appendages consist of a 80o articulating fin and bulb, a centerline dagger board, and twin kick-up rudders. The versatility of this arrangement, plus the added water ballast, dramatically adds to the sailing stability and performance of the boat. The keel has a steel fin supporting a lead bulb. The dagger board and rudders are all carbon construction.
