I'd love to but time (and common sense) would not let me ![]() BUT Do you really want to? A mini is not a toy! It has to have the right strength, stabilty etc. A Dix Mini design is only 450$ (USD). Not much for a boat of that calibre. If you are asking for a competitive design by students... With no experience at all from real completed designs... Sure it could be done but it will be at a cost, and that cost would be for you, the skipper, to find out eventually. Ask Steve (aka Saildesign) how much he would charge for designing one for you...

Im Agree With You But The technical bases of minis are now known a number among us, although free the rules of the game have their limits. The true interest is to be able to work with etudiants in the course of schooling, to use tests of carenes etc.... things that many architects do not take time to make on such small project. Having known well the sum of development necessary on maxi OMNYA such as STEINLAGER, I am convinced that best the idees does not come inevitably from largest architecture society. Ah, it's true....mini is not a toy but could be...

Erik, THanks for the recommendation ![]() Bertrand, I have to somewhat agree that it would be interesting and maybe beneficial to use students for the design, but you would have to pay them. I realise that this may be outside the budget, but the students need something to show for their hard work. Obviously it would not be practical to pay each student a "living" wage for their time, since they are likely to use time freely, but a promise of a certain amount on completion, plus maybe a bonus if the boat does well. Students do have access to facilities (tanks, etc.) that would make it too expensive to ask a working designer to do for such a small boat, but it must be remembered that a Mini will take almost as much time to design as an Open60 - their is still a hull, a rig, ballast, foils, and living space to be designed. Size is immaterial for these. Since Erik mentioned it, I'll give you an approximate time quote: 500 hours, minimum. Or I could quote the standard 10% of building costs, but then I would be tempted to put in less time than I should. The last Open60 I worked on took 1000 hours to design, and the Open40 Wind of Change boats took a little longer (two baots, two skippers, more conflicts) Steve
