max RPM for a sail boat

HI
I have to repower a 45 ft sail boat. The old engin was 60 HP and the new one is 100 HP. I dont really know the RPM of the old engin but t I know that the max RPM for the new engine is 1000 RPM. does anybody know if that is fine for this kind of sail boat knowing that i am going to use the same old propeller.
thanks very much

It's rather unlikely that the new engine that's near twice as powerful will require the same prop. There are several places you can check for prop sizing, better yet a professional to do the calculations. It's very easy to suggest the new power plant will need a larger diameter and different pitch then the higher revving 60 HP it replaces. Do get it done by a pro, as it will pay for itself in fuel economy and engine wear. Why the need for such a larger output engine?

Ted Brewer has a great article in this issue's "Good Old Boat." It may help you with prop sizing questions (although it is oriented more towards HP). I suggest looking into it.

Resistance / propeller

Look at my software: www.sea-power.net

It is for professionales, having ship's and engine's data it is quick calculation using this software.

If you will not be able to solve this come back to me.

Are you sure that 1000 rpm is the maximum possible rpm of your engine? Usually this is the lowest rpm for diesel and gasoline engines. You better check that out.
