Mast Making

Mast making seems to be underdiscussed--maybe even its becoming a kind of 'lost art'? Here's a link on making a mast using the "birth's mouth" method.

Feel free to post other good mast-making links or mast-making tips on this thread.

Not that hard to do in carbon, either. You do have to think about more issues obviously, but still within reach of the 'gifted amateur', given you get a proper engineer to design the layup.

The braided and Uni sleeve from A & P Technology is ideal for this purpose.

Now 'all you need' is a mold, oven, compaction method and slow curing resin system and you're there!

that is good method... hollow mast

I use a big log and downsize it to scape the outer skin... waste a lot of lumber but good for my own boat...

Just a thought Why couldn't you build it in half and join it together with epoxy and then use Kelvar/Carbon fibre to seal it up on both inside and on the outside once you have glued the two pieces together?
