martha green wheelhouse I am building a Atkins Matha Green, am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on raising the wheel house 5 inch's. The height now is 5'11" and I am 6'5"!! I am in hopes that the extra 6 inch's will not change the looks too much, any thoughts?

| Five inches is huge appearance wise. The pilothouse will look like a phone booth..... First you can cold-mold the cabin top and eliminate the beams, that will gain a couple of inches. Then put another inch or two of crown in both housetops. Then I would build a comfortable seat and live with it.....if you want to stand up go on deck......... ![]() If you do raise it any I would add a bit of length as well, probably forward over the trunk. This will reduce the phone booth appearance......But you must be careful not to overdo it and have her come out looking top heavy....

thank you Tad, those where some of my concerns, I am really thinking that I will just live with it, I am used to ducking anyways. All of my other boats, had nice seating so maybe i will just concentrate on that aspect rather than changing the looks too much.....tks again....

Phone booth... LOL Tad! ![]() Imho, perhaps it's not that bad as it might seem at first glance. I've taken the pic of Marta Green from here: http://www.boat-links.com/Atkinco/Cr...rthaGreen.html and scaled it to 24 ft with AutoCAD. Then I've measured 10 in. and the result is that it corresponds approximately to the diameter of that search light on her roof. So, if you take the wheelhouse and stretch it upwards by that amount, the result is: - before: ![]() - after: ![]() Now, it's all a matter of personal preference (of course) but it doesn't look too unusual nor overly bad to me... Cheers!

Yes, it might help imho. As soon as I'm done with a job I have to finish here, I'll try to distort the pic of the wheelhouse, to simulate the result. Cheers

Ok, something like this: Attachment 58471 It's a quick and a pretty primitive photoshop job, but should be enough to let you imagine what it might look like. Cheers!

I thought all pilot houses were supposed to make you duck and stoop ![]() All my boats have been like that. That low roof is a handy place for 'things' you want in easy reach. Better to stick with the one that hits you in the forehead! ![]()
