hey guys im landlocked here in ohio im building a 32 ft spencer boat i need some stuff for my boat also really dig the site i was a comercial fisherman in fla and eastcoast its hard to get stuff here for sailboats over24 ft i was looking a mast but ill build my own wood like to find a 3 cyl aircooled diesle also some questions about gelcoat and barriercoat iwish to put in on allagainy river and sail chesapeake and atlantic nobody around here likes to talk boats also had quite a war with neibors for parking boat near house but as the coonas say tress lebon bonton rhule ps please forgive my spelling

well to make a long story short.we started fishing in open hull24ft aquasports we would go foroneandhalf days 20 or30 miles out then pickens got scarce so we got 31ft jcboats and could fish 40 to70 miles out .at first only had to stay3or4days to get a payload ,4years later we were staying7 to9 days to getthe same payload and then more rules were imposed on us .we all lost everything boats houses and all .so i came to ohio and got into the machine trades seeking security because everything is made by machines .that job was killing my soul .anyway they took our job to mexico and china and am now a powerlineman in ohio

Yeah seems the story with fishermen throughout the world these days! Ouy gotta eat and so does the wife and kid's but it ain't easy! Still to move away from the sea is a bit drastic! Hey but the linesman job in mostly outdoors if nothing else!

ya cant controll the wind . you can only set your sails and ride . life is great ,really looking forward to putting this boat in.let me tell you about it.she is a spencerboat .one of 18 soled from brandlmary boatyards in vancover canada.two men a father and son built the hull and topside they were woodworkers exelant ones at that the father is a mathamation he teaches at antioch university and the son is a home builder they intended to sail around the world when the father retired the boat was in a barn for 20 years or so . anyway she is built with old growth lumber. the backbone and ribs are alaskan yellow ceder plywood is lauan cabin is afican mahogoney also white oak and gumwood.the inside of the boat is laminated with resion and the outside of the boat has been glassed plus since its been inside everything should fine .im intending to gelcoat the entire hull and barrier coat under the waterline.[ is this old school] or are there better ways and material to use? Little thing back in '76 now what are you talking about? All I can remember from then was a few Limeys had a bit of an argument about real estate, normal sort of stuff. Anyways the French and Spanish we're playing up so some of the lads as was going over to the Americas to settle this wee scrap stopped off at a place called Gibraltar, after all as the Admiral chappie said, 'OK so the lads in America are being a bit naughty, but IF they do get some independance (and why the hell shouldn't they, we may work for the government but we do not have to agree with them - see nothing changes ) they will still REMAIN British at Heart; this lot over here are foreigners and need their bottoms smacking! And by God HE WAS RIGHT! So you see though you thought you were a great nation you were still British at the time and we gave you a chance whilst we sorted out the foreigner! We gave up America for Gibraltar (MMmmm!)

How could we be bitter about that? Take the pee, Yes. Bitter, No!

After all we are still between us the Best (that includes the Scots/Aust'rail'ians, Bergalia) A Happy and Prosperous New Year to You as well!

Nice boat and project - and one that you're enjoying from the sound of it.

You mentioned China and Mexico- for an air-cooled diesel, I'd recommend looking at the Chinese manufactured engines. I don't think you'll find something specific to your purpose, but with the background you describe it sounds like you can make it work well for you. You can do a wide search on www.alibaba.com, or two examples of manufacturers are:

Air cooled diesels? reminds me of some we used to drive boats back in my Service Days - good stuff if you were worried about weed etc. clogging up the intakes; but **** they were noisy! Not really the thing for relaxing yacht cruises (or 'sneaky beaky raids') There again your 'fighting marines' from over there like noise - frightens the hell out of the redcoats apparantly! Not as good as 'cold steel' (this latest scrap some of our lads fixed bayonets and sorted out the opposition in short order) Thought wars had moved on but apparantly not! Which has got absolutely nothing to do with the subject save to emphasise the noise from 'air cooled boat engines'

i was thinking about not having any through hull fitting most boats that I know of sinking caused by the toilet or engine intakes . think about this,,,, every one on th back deck ;fishing or sailing and having fun and the skipper realises a problem . by then theres already a substantial amount of water

were I live in ohio they are tearing down the farms ; and building plats.I know its hard to find suitible wood for backbones and ribs ,I was wondering about these old barn beams about a foot wide and foot thick. ;most are over 100 years old;ya cant drive a nail in um. now they are plentifull ,in 5 years they will be gone . they are white oak hand hewn ????

Hey Longliner go grab tha wood with both hands man - it's the best seasoned wood you'll ever get! so you'll break a few drill bits getting fasteners into 'em but th stuff will be damn stable (no Pun intended), won't budge an inch!

Only wish I could get a few over here for my next project!
