Lifting Keels

Hi,
I'm starting my final project for the University, and it consists in developing a lifting keel for a 14m. yatch. I would be very grateful if anyone could bring me some information about them. Specially what are the systems that are used to lift the keel, and the reasons to use them (why hidraulic and not electrical for example). The most important things in lifting keel designs, guidance systems, pics, 3D...
Any information is really welcome, thank you very much for the time!
