Kind of Boat? (Pics)

Howdy,

I recently bought an old boat and I have no clue what it is. The guy who I bought it from had no clue as well. The boat in the pictures is the exact way I bought it. I haven't touched it since I got it in January.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Year? Model? Is it the way they came from the factory?

Thanks,

Chris

Edit: Take a stab at an estimated top speed too. I'm hoping for 50 mph. Agree? Disagree?

At a guess it's a small motor boat!

Doesn't the outboard look a tad overkill, size wise? It looks to me like it will saltomortale the instant the motor is rev'ed ...

Yeah, that motor is probobly a little overkill, but that's why I fell in love with it. I have seen a similar Aqua-Lark with a 40 Evinrude.

Yipster, no the boat only has 1 motor on it. Coincidentally the guy had a second identical motor so he gave me a deal for the whole shebang. I'm going to see which one runs best, then sell the other one in the spring.

As you can see from the restrictions plate, since it's a racing boat, there is no legal limit to power.

Looks like the GW Ivader built first in the late sixties. Was 10ft. 3 inches long with 5ft. beam. Originally they were rated at 50hp. max. I've seen pics of them with 65 and 70 hp. The boat are very stable for there size. The boat you have has a little more dead rise and the lines on yours are more squared off. Have fun, Tom.

There is, just not when racing. I believe that is the way to interpret it. Just like you don't need a national flag or anything when racing, or that your car doesn't have to be road legal if you're racing. But if you want to get a license plate for your car, it has to be within the limits. At least that's how I interpreted the sign. OTOH, I know diddley about what I'm talking, so ignore me.

I know of a GW Invader with a 25hp Tahatsu thats been modifided and has power trim that will do forty mph with two people and forty seven with one. This might be a fair comparison. Had to add this as I didn't read all of your original post. Go figure, Tom.

hey I like this you don't have to do this and you dont have to do that because your racing stuff! Had an example of it once coming down river on an Oil rig supply vessel (won't say who's) several dinghys came screaming past sails all over the place most were sensible and realised we were to big to manouever but one chap shouts out " get out of my way, I'm racing as he nipped under our bows" the Skipper gets on the loudhailer and shouts out "don't be an idiot or words to that effect!" Our racing chum shouts out "but I'm racing you have to get out of my way, it's the law" he then ducked under our bow again -

Sank the bloody fool!

The boat is fiberglass. The plate says "Produits Alcan", so apparently it's a Canadian built Alcan from Quebec. But I still don't know the model or year, or the history behind it.
