Warby's accomplishment was pretty amazing, although he had the example of the Hustler jet boat built by Rich Hallett for Lee Taylor to draw upon. When Taylor set his 285 mph record, he made a one-way run of 299.310 mph.

Lee Taylor's Hustler (essentially a stretched version of a Rich Hallett Banzai, http://www.performanceboats.com/v-dr...49-banzai.html ).

It still mystifies me what Ken Warby was thinking building his second boat as an open cockpit hydroplane when by that time every other 200+ mph boat in the world was being built with a fully enclosed cockpit.
