hi i am a student at the arts and design scool in romania and i have these problem with a project. The theme is a speed, fluvial, civil, catamaran design; my ideea is that i want to make the design with the propulsion engine in the midle side of the boat, between the two floats while the directioning is in the back side of the boat. The boat has five meeters long. I believe that this sistem is more reliable and easier to handle especialee in the turning procedure. On the other side i am obtainig with these design the horizontal position of deplasation. 10

Well the ideea is that i want to open a discution about the sistem written before. I want to know what are the weak points of these ideea and what are the strong ones, if there are any more, but i am more interested to be criticised.

I have designed and built a 5m (16ft.) catamaran with the engine in the position you describe (I think).

Propulsion problems:

1. The water between the hulls is not as "clean" as you would expect - if you are using a standard outboard with an unmodified cavitation plate you get ventilation even when your plate is below water level by 2.5cm (1inch). The fix is attaching a hydrofoil.

2. Turning is flat, that is very little pitch - that is not a real problem because it is very easy on the passangers . But you cannot turn as sharply as a standard hull with a tiller outboard.

Firsth I want to thank you for the answer your help is very important to me. I was thinking also in these project to have the deck separated from the floats and between them a suspension sistem. I believe that in these way a fluvial catamaran will have a more smoothlee way of working when speeding with a less impact from the riples.Also in these scheme I want to present you the exact positioning of the propulsion and the directioning of the project.
