J boats are only built by the company. They don't sell or license their plans.

Are you trying to be a smart-a$$?

He is asking about J Class boats, not boats designed by Rod Johnstone and family.

FYI: Plans for most (Johnstone) J Boats have been available for model makers pretty much since the original J24. Not to mention the J boats have never been built by J Boats, they have always been sub-contracted to licensees.

To get plans for any of the J's you will have to contact the design firm, the estate of the designer if dead or possibly the current owner of the design rights.

Of course being specific about which J you're interested in would help refine your search requirements considerably.

For what it's worth several restorations and new builds have occurred in recent years of these old school AC beasts. There is active racing, with classes based on era and modifications and are campaigning these monsters.

You do realize how much it costs to build a J, right?

Several are in building stages. Including a new Endeavour. Also a Thor Holm design, and I understand a L. F Herreshoff Whirlwind. To modified rules.
I asked, once for cost: 12 to 15milllion Euros.

    Is this a serious thread?

Surely the cheapest way to build a J is with matchsticks?

    Excuse all!!!!!

    Hi Sailors!!!
Excuse all for my bad formulated question. I am talk about J Class for build as a RC model. The development that I am looking is to create here in Brasil with several friends a J Class RC model, so I don`t have at least 6 million of Euros to expend building a J Class. I wish have!!!!
So, my idea is find plans to build a RC model.
The plans of classic J Class is for this idea!!!
Sorry also but English is not my mother language!
    Regards for all

Rene Serrao sells plans for all the J's that were involved in America's Cup racing as challengers or defender candidates. These are 1/16 scale boats to the American Model Yachting Association J Class rules, which allow for deeper draft:

PM me if you would like Rene's email.

    Cheers,
