Maybe you have already answered this above, but have you started by building a dinghy or rowboat or other small simple boat? You have to realize that a 24' boat isn't twice the work of a 12' boat or three times - it's more like 10 times the work. Weight, cost, and labor all are an order of magnitude higher. |

I'm simply drawing 3d models and playing with them so that I can learn eventually to make my own designs that will hopefully look more appealing than anything else out there and be very well made like a Catalina or Pacific Seacraft. If you look at the illustrations I have added you can see that I get obsessive about things being in order, precisely aligned, and having a missing letter on the plans bugs me because I feel it is missing a piece even though I know it's not. What I really want is a set of free plans the quality of the K39, but I want something fast, stylish, with lots of canvas and accommodations for living like a small bathtub built into the floor that will hold 4 inches of hot water and a waterheater. I realized I made my K39 wrong because I applied an effect before finishing the hull and can't go back, so I'm starting over with that set of plans right now. |

| Using the loft drawings is turning out MUCH better. Why would the designer only use short frames in the bottom of the boat for some of the frames? Maybe it is to reduce weight? I think it will weigh the proverbial TON with that much plywood that thick. |

| It looks like building her from the actual dimensions is a LOT better than trying to do it from the drawings. What are the drawings good for if they are not to scale? I really don't like the paint job yet, but It is difficult to get a white surface to look like it has any depth. ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us |

| The Following Is Pure Speculation: I want to try something with my RC boat I'm making. I want to use a lateen sail and make the part of the mast that holds the highest tip of the sail up so that it can be tilted at any angle possible while not interfering with the standing rigging. That way, I can kind of lay the sail down more horizontal so that the center of pressure on the mast is lower in relation to where it would be standing up straight so the boat would heel less in strong wind. It would point the tack windward and the clew and the head would both point leeward. I think I said that right. It might look like this: ![]() ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us |

| Maybe it would be better like this actually, This reduces the heeling angle instead of increasing it which is really want I think I wanted to do when I started. Oh well. Anyone know how I can come up with $2800.00 soon? I want to go to school and that's how much the first part costs. Humm, Maybe I can get a loan... Nope, I can't since I'm on disability income. I think I need a real job. Maybe I could paint houses again. That wasn't too bad a job really. ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us EDIT:: I just realized that the mast on these is too tall with the original design, but I added weight to the keel and added a fixed keel. Then I put a hydrofoil wing thing on the bottom of the keel. It would not be solid lead or steel since it is huge. I'm really just playing around because it will be a long time before I have $2800.00 to take classes. |
