I'm looking for first step into boat design

Hello.

I'm 30 years old and I'm looking for first step into boat design.
I work at family company, we already have printing house and graphic design. And I'm employed as graphic designer. Every day I use softwares like Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw and others. Already many years I want to be boat designer, too. And I know, that boat designers use anothers softwares and maybe diffiicult, too.
I want to draw plans for companies all over the world, or I want to design interior yachting design, chiefly I want to make everything about boat design.
I found next link for Interior yachting design course in Rom. What do you think about this course?

http://www.ied.it/Ied/ita/prog-desig...ign/intro.html

Can you advice me, when can I begin?

yours sincerely

The advice for people who would like to know how to design yachts is always the same: read, read, read, think about it, and then read some more. By the time it starts to make a little sense to you, you will know what you need yourself. There are many sources of design information on the net, as well as some very good text books on the subject.

Two texts that have good reputations are

"Skene's Elements of Yacht Design " F.S. Kinney

"The Principles of Yacht Design " Larsson and Eliasson

You will need 3D design/cad software also. One that does the marine calculations will be helpful.

Being an old graphics person will help a lot with the design.

Good luck and have fun.

If you have the time, you can look into this place http://www.macnaughtongroup.com/school.htm I just ordered my first couple of lessons, so I can't give you much feedback on the school yet. I have been using Carene for a while and have built a number of boats designed in the program. I just recently won Duckworks contest for boat design with a design I came up with in Carene.
