Nice boat, but I think you might want to invest in a load leveling hitch. You hit too much of a bump or a ramp/driveway/incline and you might see some sparks. Am I right or is all the writing on the boat...not ON the boat yet?

Is this a joke?? The trailer is overloaded (at least too much tongue-weight), the front wheels of your truck are almost off the ground, and you're parked in front of a vehicle safety sign. boo.

Perhaps moving the boat back on the trailer to better ballance the load. It looks too far forward (for the design) to me. Move it back a foot to 18 inches might make all the difference.

Oh, one more thing - Steve - you don't normally move the boat back, you move the wheels forward....

Hi Guys.

Yeah - it now has a load levelling hitch! Sheesh - tell me sumthin I don't know!
No - the writings not on it yet, thats the sign writer playing with designs - the groupers gone and a sailfish now added.

Interesting bout the "safety" comments...

1st - The boat was OWNED by marine dept of transport safety!!!!!! (I won it at a public tender)

2nd - The trailer was out of license and had to go over their safety pits the day I picked it up, hence the photo location.

3rd. The load leveling device was missing when the safety/transport authority people sold me their boat - I've since rectified that.

4th. The boat was also Out of Survey, i.e = the marine safety branch, let their own boat survey expire.

5th. When they re-surveyed their own boat it initially failed!!!!

(A myriad of things - fire extinguishers not serviced for 4 years, epirb & flares outta date etc etc etc). Remember - these are the guys who drive around issuing infringements when our boats aren't up to scratch!! There are TWO sets of rules people - one for us mere plebs and another set entirely for those whos job it is to enforce the rules!

My point is this.

I won the boat at Tender and drove 200 miles to collect it on the day the photo was taken. The boat was owned by those responsible for the very safety comments you all rightfully make.

This was the condition I found it in (plus a flat tyre, blown turn signal globe etc etc etc) - it doesn't reflect the condition I maintain a boat in. Your comments ARE correct - and you should be horrified, BUT - just bare in mind - THIS is the condition the people in CHARGE of marine / transport safety maintain THEIR vehicles / boats / trailers, which WE pay for with our TAXES!!!

I've always said they ain't fit for the jobs they hold, but then people reckon I'm a hard case. At least I can provide "proof" - hell there were things on the previous years survey they hadn't even bothered to rectify. I have about ZERO respect for the safety authorities frankly....

Anyway - thanks for the comments..

Will - your welcome to a free ride / fish anytime, if you get out west be sure n give me a holler OK?

Cheers

I forget what year my cousin's Ford Explorer was, but one year I towed my hovercraft with it. I re-adjusted the weight three times, and put air in the tires twice to get the pressure and handling right.

What a piece of work that Explorer was. My Geo Tracker does a far better job. Heck my neighbors small Ford pick-up truck was a great tow vehicle, used that one year.

The problem with the photo is that someone is foolish enough to use a Ford Explorer as a tow vehicle.

Okay, there are some other issues, but my knowledge base is based on towing a mear 800 lbs or so.

Actually it's a Toyota Landcruiser 4.2 litre turbo diesel, but hey, no blood no foul!

It was one of 4 built by Lauri Chivers in Fremantle WA in Yr 2000 for the Department of Transport (Marine Safety Branch). It was built to 2C survey, with full foam flotation, electric and manual bilge pumps and so on..

I'm pleased with her so far, best trip to date was 54 nautical miles (Abrolhos Islands to Geraldton) in 5 meter swells, in 2 hours 15 mins... only got spray on the windows 2 times, and the swells were closing out on the shipping chanell into the harbour, which made for an interesting arrival.

Cheers.
