Hybrid - Genset-Inverter Looking to suply enough energy to run AC . Genset is the normal way but could we use a small one 3 to 4kw and a 2.5 kw inverter in parallel so that the extra load needed to start the compressor would be compensated by the inverter and when not needed the extra energy from the genset would recharge the batteries ? That way you could go for a smaller genset and let it run longer. Any ideas ?

You might be able to accomplish this by use of a grid-intertie inverter. The trick is that in order to run in parallel, the A.C. sinewave of genset and inverter must be synchronized.

Re: Frequency Sync Thank you for the info. Do you know of any inverter that would have this sync feature built in?

Most inverter manufacturers make a model for grid-intertied renewable energy installations. Google 'grid intertie inverter' and talk to the technical department of some inverter companies as to whether your scheme can work.
