| Hoyt Jib Boom Hello I am new to this website. Its a good one and relevant to my work. I am working on several sailboat designs that has a fractional sail layout. I have already decided for certain that my sailboat designs will have a large main and small non-overlapping jib. The sailboat is especially optimized for singlehanding. The problem is that I am trying to decide which is jib layout is better: Jib with a self tending, self vanging Hoyt jib-boom (similiar to the new J/100 with Hoyt jib-boom option) or a self tending jib with a track on the deck. Right now I am leaning towards the former option because when sailing downwind or broad reaching in light winds, the jib will often just flop around uselessly. The jib-boom helps to allievate this so I think it is the best option. But that said, I would like opinions on this, please. The more, the merrier! |

| Jib booms are great for day sailors , little line handeling while beating and munching a sandwich. The overlapping jib is used as it WORKS BETTER in creating drive , and thats what is needed to climb waves. For an afternoon , if you dont mind the jib boom attempting to break your ankles while in the foredeck , go for it. Heading out across the smallest ocean ? probably not. FAST FRED |
