| I'll let some others refer you to some fine books that cover this huge field. If you narrow your search to a certain type of boat, then you will only have to devote 3 years to reading. |

| Well I just want a three mast sailboat like they had in the 18th centry is what I want. If it has to be more modern thats fine too. Aidan |

| If you can't find something for that then I could hope to find a regular sised sailboat. Aidan |

| You have received teases and been poked fun at simply because the questions you pose, are so broad that they can't be easily answered. What they haven't said is you need to study yacht design, which takes most people a few years of classroom study. There are on line courses or you can enroll in a naval architecture class. You can attempt to study the different subjects yourself, but it is not an easy thing and undoubtedly you will miss various aspects of the process without guidance or instruction. ...18th century three mast ships are not the type of thing you roll out of the local yacht club with. They cost millions to build and take dozens of crew to sail. This tells me you have very little practical experience at sailing and yacht ownership. Yacht ownership is not a cheap thing. Yacht building is not a cheap thing. That big puddle you live on up there, when liquid would be a nice place, but maybe it would be best if you went down to the local yacht club or marina and asked around about ownership, maintenance, repairs and annual costs. Refine you ideals and needs and then ask specific questions. The book store on this site (http://books.boatdesign.net/) has all the major titles you will need to learn about design, building and all the rest. |

| Capt. Bligh sailed over 1000 miles in a longboat from the Bounty. Start small. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Bligh

| The more masts you have the more crew you will need the bigger the boat will have to be the more it will cost ... Rather than deciding what boat you want, perhaps because you've one that looks inviting, it's better to decide what you want to do with it first. Then work toward a design that you can build or existing boat you can buy. Eventually your purse is likely to make the decision for you unless you are one of those rare Canadian billionaires ...
