I found scantlings under the terms used in the origami boat building method.
Apparently, scantlings are formed when the pre-cut plates are welded together. The plates rather form scantlings like in dresses and not chines.
I can't say, if it is permitted to borrow a term out of the textile industry and hope to find acceptance in the boating world.
