Perhaps I was thinking common practice unless you like to see the roof structure telegraphing through the roofing.
I made the mistake of building my loft floor with 1/2 ply over 2' on center framing sitting on a concrete slab. Waste of 15 sheets of ply at $22 per sheet, I'll use it for molds. I've been building homes for 25 years and never put 1/2" ply on a roof deck framed at 2' on center.

Agreed. If I was building a deck or loft floor that was going to see regular foot traffic I'd use 3/4" minimum, and on 16" centers. Forkliftking is building a roof on 16" centers and needed to minimize weight so 1/2" will be suitable.

My house, and the previous two I owned up here were all built with 1/2" ply and there's zero telegraphing, and we get significant snow loading. That being said, I wish you had built my house...

With 16" centers 1/2" is fine for roof sheathing. I thought we were talking 24" centers.

I used cool room panels for the roof on my houseboat. you could easy put a floating deck on top of that. http://stonevahestate.tripod.com/houseboat/

Passed the test!

Finished the roof Thursday and gave it a dry run test on Saturday in the shop. I called up three old drinking buddies and hinted that there would be free beer at the test. Total test weight, 890 human pounds plus 4 chairs and 1 full coleman cooler. Test lasted for 3 hours. no structual problems. One minor change is needed. I will install a tie off post in the center and issue safety belts and ropes in the future. Everybody have a good day!
