HIN Numbers Hi all, A bit of a spin off in my mind from the aluminum kayak thread which at times got to the point of HIN numbers. Now what I was wondering, I found out if you want to sell recreational craft in the US you need them, are there any rules like this in Europe? Grtz, Arvy

All boats sold in Europe must be CE certified, and require a craft ID number. For US built boats exported into markets regulated by CE certification, the craft ID is the HIN preceded by the letters "US". In addition to being certified, each boat requires a Declaration of Conformity to be issued by the builder when the boat is delivered for sale. There are exemptions, etc. A good place to look for more info is the International Marine Certification Institute (www.IMCI.org).

Thanks, I will check out the IMCI site. Not that I really need a thing like that at all, I was just wondering about it, but might come in handy in the future!
