"The Common Sense of Yacht Design" has been out of print for years. Old copies sell for $170.00 in fair condition. Are there more people interested in a reprint? I don't know what the minimum run is, but it could be possible to convince the publisher. It was Jamaica Books in NY.

My copy says it was published by Caravan-Maritime, in Jamaica, NY.
Great book - well worth the $170 if you have it to spare, but way better for a reasonable price ;-)

You are right. It was Caravan-Maritime from Jamaica NY. I'll try to get more information.
Thanks for the support
PS. I envy you for having a copy

There seems to be a good demand for it. I’ve been keeping my eye open for a reasonable one for a long time. $100 US is the lowest I’ve seen. Here is some nice ones.

The Common Sense of Yacht Design

I would be very happy to reprint this book, but unfortunately, although out of print it imay still be in copyright. I believe WoodenBoat owns the rights to Rudder's stuff. I will check on the copyright and if it is available you can be sure I will reprint it. Any other suggestions would also be welcom. No minimum print run is necessary as we are "demand" publishers. The website for those interested in the books and booklets we publish (over 1,100) is:

I have just researched some of the copyright basics, and it may be out of copyright. One determining factor would be if there is a legitimate copyright notice in the book. If either of the two individuals who have a copy would be kind enough to check their copy and look for the copyright notice and let me know that would be helpful. It should read:

Copyright @ Rudder Publishing Co., 1946

or something similar. (The @ sign above substitutes for the copyright c within a circle.)

I'm in. If you make this run, do we pay in advance? Do you have an aproximate price?

The Vaugn edition would not be available. But I'm still looking into the original Rudder edition and I think it might be ok. I'll know in a few days. If I decide it is I'll get a copy and as soon as I receive it the book will be available in about 2-3 weeks. As for price, it will depend on the final number of pages, illustrations, plates, etc., in our edition.

Hi guest. It'd be nice if you registered and shared your information with us. I assume you are a publisher. The edition by "The Rudder" was in two volumes. I think the newer version in one tome is more convenient. Thanks for taking the time to research all this. I believe that many libraries would be interested in a reprint too. It would help to print in greater quantities, wouldn't it?

Looks like the owner of the copyright may be willing to reprint the book. His link is: www.tillerbooks.com . It may be better if we compile a list of people willing to buy the book in advance. We could get a discount and encourage the printer.

I sent off a note this morning. But if we are putting a list together I want to be on it.
