| Help in finding right designer I am looking for a yacht designer that incorporates these things in a boat: -60 ft length give or take a little -pilothouse, or hard dodger -aluminum -lifting keel -fast -can sleep 6 people comfortably All I've found to suit these so far is the Berckemeyer 60 clipper. (www.berckemeyer-yacht.de) I like his designs but I also would like to find other designs to compare it with...choice is good. I've looked but nothing seems to fit: Dashew's deerfoot, beowulf don't have lifting keel. the van de stadt Oester (stadtship 56) is brilliant but it seems to be a proprietary design, & can only be built at K&M in Holland and we want to build in capetown. Does anyone know of another similar type of boat? |

| I mean it is not easy to find ready made design in alloy for sail boat of this size. I am sure no designer makes them for stock. |

| Well, Dave Gerr's Quicksilver isn't too far. 57' 12 to 14 knots, lifting keel... He's around here sometimes. Why ya not pm him |

| There is a designer right on your doorstep, if he lets you down you know where to find him and during the building process he is just a cheap phonecall away. He is the ONLY person in the world who design yachts with a real computor program and that's why his yachts are extremely fast. All other 'programs' are just gloryfide 'lofting tools' (NURBS) (read:The boatbuilding community: The dirty little secrets of hull design by computor). Having a real program where the only variables are LOA to Beam ratio and alll other data are interdependent means that absolute fairness is asured while other criteria such as e.g. center of buoancy remain constant and hence the performance being absolute predictable (A 30 foot cruiser/racer booked 11 knots at Beaufort 2 to 3) Your 60 foot racer should fly) If you want to contact this man (which you relly should) you can E-mail us on gouloozeyachts@absamail.co.za |

| like this? this is a fast cruiser, not super fast but she outperforms most, I was builder, and had a lot to do with design including the structure, we could modify the keel as it is its scheel, 8 tonnes lead 60 is about the min for a pilothouseIF you want more than two sleeping cabins If you are serious I can put you onto the man I worked with designed many successful alloy, email me if you want |

| Correction to previous post. The velocity of forementioned 30 footer reached periodically to 11 knots but the wind force was 3+ to 4 Beaufort. We forgot to mention that this vessel was a converted defunct mould with just some smoothing on the exterior. Consequently the weigth distributions were not to 'racing's standard. The designer developed his computor program some 24 years ago and when reading about other design methods using the computor always thought that those programs must be similar to his own. Only recently he learnt (by stumbling on forementioned : The dirty little secrets of hull design by computor from the boat building community) that he was probably the only one with an uniqe computor design program. My ignorant friend Tad should be more polite when he reads something he does not understand. Mr Julz may just benefit to take a day trip to where we are so that he can be convinced that indeed the program-and previous build yachts do exist. Of course the program can not be published or blabbered out and give the secret away. Mr Tad you travel expenses AND your valuable time will be payed by us if you come to visit us and can prove that we've spoken 'gibberisch' .Neal Petersen of 'Round the world alone race' sailed in a undersized 36 foot CRUISER to which he nailed some wood at the stern to qualify for the minimum requirement of 40 foot and did well. |

| The remark found under lazeyyack: coming from S.A.nobody does it better tee heee is out of place. The designer we were talking about was born and bred in the town Zaandam Holland of Mr van der Stadt fame and despite some15 years his junior was quite aquinted to him. That the 2 to 3 Beaufort slipped in (being the wind force when the yourney began) We apologisch for the mistake which was caused by retyping after failure to save the article. |

| To silence the skeptics we have decided to lift the veil hidingg the computor program. Attached you will find some of the results of the program. A method of tewsting the validity of our claims is included. You will notice: the program yields a non-compromise hull shape a little complicated for 3-d bending of aluminium sheets. We propose a solution which is easier, cheaper and gives a stronger and lighter vessel. Suggestion: make an aluminium honeycomb of closely spaced lightweight frames. Client's choice can be 10- or 20 frames or even 96@160 mm pitch (just kidding but the option is there and the computor takes care of it. All frames have slits to accept the closely spaced (with constant pitch) flat stringers on 'edge'. Weld stringers and frames together and laminate a GRP skin over the skeleton. To put the cherry on the cake, complete the yacht with our 100% tapered mast for more speed (6%) and less heeling (20%). The succes of the 30 footer may be partly due to its tapered mast inclusion.
