hawaiin outrigger hull design

hello everyone,
i am seeking feedback on hull design for an outrigger canoe. the boats are paddled by six athletes, one of which doubles as the stearsman. the boats are traditionally about 45' long and about 18" wide. the boat is stabilized on the port side via iako's and ama (the riggers and pontoon). the boats are derived from an ancient design that served as fishing, travel, and fighting vessel. the basic design has remained the same for many hundreds of years until the introduction of composites which aided in the elimination of the original koa canoes except as an exhibition class. the canoe has taken two different design venues. the tahitian style canoe and the hawaiin style. the hawaiian style is what is currently raced in my area (sothern california). but the tahitian style is more conducive to our water conditions. the hawaiian style is the better surfing canoe that excels in "big" water where as the tahitian style has less rocker, a finer entry and release and is lighter.
my goal is to create a new class of boat that is faster than the current tahitian design. any and all input is welcome. thanks

I Know that out here in hawaii there are many different rules on what is allowed in OCRA is our governing body. You might want to find out what rules will apply in Cali if you wish to use your boat in races.

hello ryan,
koa (kalifornia outrigger assoc.) is the governing body. the master mind behind the push for the new class is working with koa to create the new class. the specifications are loosely based on the tahitian class. what we are hoping to do is to take the next step in the evolution of the outrigger canoe. therefore we are beginning with almost no limitations other than the end result being something that is affordable for clubs, fun to paddle, and very fast. thanks, gary
