Halyard loads

Dear all,

I have been through several posts in this forum and also in classic literature and I could not find any basic formula for genoa and mainsail halyard loads.

I think there must be one, that relates sail area and wind pressure, at least it looks logical but I could not find it.

If someone could help me, that would be great. Thanks by advance, Vince

From memory, P Gutelle books have some details on sail forces, including halyards and sheets. I do not remember title, but a 3 tome book.

The method I use is to calculate the sheet load and then to resolve the force onto the head and tack (which will be dependent on aspect ratio). Harken has simple sheet load calculations that will get you started.
