I don't have that info, and it actually sounds very improbable to me. Adriatic sea can get pretty harsh, and Lampedusa is in mid Mediterranean, closer to Libya than to Italy. You're talking about some 700-800 nm of navigation in the open sea, so it's probably not the small open-deck boats like gozzos and gajetas you have heard about.
Those people are tough and sometimes pretty crazy, but not mad. Or at least - not that much.

They managed to make deplacement hull to act like a planing hull... So, at slow speed, you'll still have the steering ability, and (pretty) economical behaviour of a deplacement hull. But still with the ability to get you home at the speed required if the boss tells you get get your a** home swiftly...
It looks to me like a planing hull below the waterline, not a displacement one. On top of it, a double-ended topside has been constructed. That's the same design approach used by Aprea Mare, Menorquin and other builders of high-power planing gozzo-like crafts.

Would Also Be interesting in to understand the design history of the Messina harpoon boats. Certainly, before the age of diesel power the Sicilians were harpooning swordfish from sailing craft. ?

The Ibicenco Lluat sailed in last week. ' El Rubio" .... Beautiful fast small craft that spreads a cloud of sail.

PS is a german version of HP, and have nearly the same value.
1 HP = 0.746 kW
1 PS = 0.735 kW

I'm affraid it takes a bit more to double the boat speed than just changing the constructive material.
